The Department of Justice on Friday released the last batch of files on late convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.The DOJ said that it completed its review of the files, publicly releasing 3 million additional documents, The Hill reported.
Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche told reporters on Friday that the batch being released will be one of the last steps required under a law enacted last year that included the publication of the files related to Epstein.
“Today’s release marks the end of a very comprehensive documentation – document identification and review process to ensure transparency to the American people and compliance with the act. The department has engaged in an unprecedented and extensive effort to do so, after submitting the final report to Congress, as required under the Act, and publishing the written justifications for redactions in the Federal Register, the department’s obligations under the act will be completed,” Blanche said.
“There’s a hunger or a thirst for information that I do not think will be satisfied by the review of these documents and … there’s nothing I can do about that,” he added.
“There’s this built-in assumption that somehow there’s this hidden tranche of information of men that we know about, that we’re covering up, or that we’re choosing not to prosecute. That is not the case. I don’t know whether there are men out there that abuse these women. If we learn about information and evidence that allows us to prosecute them, you better believe we will,” Blanche said.
“But I don’t think that the public or you all are going to uncover men within the Epstein files that abuse women, unfortunately.”
The DOJ said that more than 2,000 videos and 180,000 images were released in this batch. These documents came from the Florida and New York cases against Epstein, the New York case against his associate Ghislaine Maxwell, the New York cases investigating Epstein’s death, the Office of Inspector General investigation into Epstein’s death, the Florida case investigating a former butler of Epstein, and multiple FBI investigations.
