The U.S. Department of Homeland Security announced it will temporarily suspend two popular expedited travel programs, TSA PreCheck and Global Entry, as a partial government shutdown continues. The move, set to begin early Sunday morning, comes after funding for the department lapsed when Congress failed to pass a budget deal. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said in a statement that the department is facing serious funding constraints and must reassign staff to basic security operations at airports and ports of entry. As a result, services that allow vetted travelers to speed through security and customs will be paused so personnel can focus on processing the broader traveling public.
