A Department of Homeland Security employee has allegedly leaked sensitive and personal information regarding thousands of federal immigration officers to an anti-ICE website, the Daily Beast reported Tuesday. The leak occurred in the aftermath of the fatal shooting of a woman in Minneapolis last week, whom authorities claimed was trying to ram Immigration and Customs Enforcement officers with her car.
ICE List founder Dominick Skinner told the Daily Beast that the employee gave him the list on Monday, which contained sensitive information about approximately 4,500 ICE and Border Patrol employees.
Skinner, who is Irish with American relatives, is based in the Netherlands, which puts him outside the United States’ jurisdiction.
The founder said the leak included the names, work emails, telephone numbers and roles of the agents, but not all information has been posted yet as the website works to verify the information and that it is current.
“It is a sign that people aren’t happy within the U.S. government, clearly,” Skinner said. “The shooting was the last straw for many people.”
Skinner said he expects to release the majority of the information he obtained, but that some exceptions will be allowed for nurses and people who work in childcare within the agency.
“ICE and CBP are in clear need of reform, and I believe working for either is a bad move on a moral level,” Skinner said of his decision to release the details. “We will make exceptions on a case-by-case basis … We will have a discussion once the team flags a position as something we need to think twice about.”
The leak comes despite officials already noting an 8,000% increase in death threats against ICE agents and a 1,347% increase in assaults.
“Law enforcement officers are on the frontlines arresting terrorists, gang members, murderers, pedophiles, and rapists,” Assistant DHS Secretary Tricia McLaughlin told the outlet. “Thanks to the malicious rhetoric of sanctuary politicians, they are under constant threat from violent agitators. Publicizing their identities puts their lives and the lives of their families at serious risk.”
