DC Circuit likely to reject Peter Navarro’s contempt appeal on broad executive privilege theory

WASHINGTON (CN) — Peter Navarro, a senior trade adviser to President Donald Trump, urged the D.C. Circuit on Thursday to vacate his conviction for his refusal to provide documents or testimony before a special House committee investigating the Jan. 6, 2021, Capitol riot.

Navarro, who spent four months in prison last summer after a jury convicted him on two counts of contempt of Congress in 2023, has argued that he was protected by executive privilege and should not have been required to appear to assert it.
