Decades ago, the legendary “ABC Wide World Of Sports” chronicled the life of your average Russian citizen living behind the Iron Curtain in the USSR: Wake up in the morning in a dreary apartment. Off on a dismal public transit system to a dismal state-sponsored job. Return home. Clear the dinner dishes. For the evening’s entertainment you had your choice of several channels of grainy television as you opened a can of beer, being your only luxury. One channel played, with the continuous nattering of pompous, twisted, and prevaricating state officials telling you every night how wonderful everything was in Russia, only the state was telling you the truth, only they were the ones that cared for you, how blessed you were to be living in Communism, and how awful and terrible the USA was to its people.
