As Christians celebrate the birth of their Savior Thursday, new polling from Napolitan News Service shows that Christmas remains America’s top holiday.”Christmas continues to be considered America’s most important holiday, with 56% of voters saying it is one of our nation’s most important holidays,” Napolitan says. “Just 8% say it is among the least important. These numbers are little changed from last year.”
Most registered voters in the U.S. – 85% – say they will celebrate Christmas this year, down six percentage points from last year.
“Fewer (7%) will celebrate Hanukkah, 3% will celebrate Kwanzaa, and 9% will celebrate none of these holidays,” Napolitan says.
The poll of 1,000 registered voters was conducted online by pollster Scott Rasmussen Dec. 15-16. It has a margin of error of +/- 3.1.
In a separate poll of 1,000 voters conducted by Rasmussen, 78% of respondents say that Jesus Christ existed and walked the earth.
“Government employees are among the most skeptical about the existence of Jesus,” Napolitan says. “More than one in three (36%) say he did not or are not sure. Seventy-six percent 76% say that Jesus Christ was the Son of God.”
