Secretary of Energy Chris Wright is expected to brief Senators on Washington’s involvement in the Venezuelan energy sector this week following the ouster of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro.Wright will speak at the invitation of Sen. Mike Lee, R-Utah, Politico reported. The briefing comes ahead of Wright’s trip to the country to assess the situation.
Last month, American special forces extracted Maduro from the country and brought him to New York to face trial on drug-trafficking charges.
The U.S. government has since attempted to work with acting President Delcy Rodriguez on an eventual transition of power and the eventual return of American businesses to help revitalize oil production.
