Rep. Robert Garcia (D-CA) went on a wild screed where he accused the Trump administration and ICE of corruption, unlawfully detaining over 170 US citizens, terrorizing communities, and undermining local police trust through raids in California, Los Angeles, and elsewhere.
For context, Garcia was born in Peru and migrated to the US at age 5. His family overstayed their visa, becoming undocumented until gaining citizenship via Reagan’s 1986 amnesty law. The former Long Beach mayor describes himself as the first openly gay immigrant in Congress.
