There is a reason the “Okay, boomer” meme has endured while others have come and gone. Even with most of this cohort entering their 70s and now 80s, they continue to go from strength to strength, enjoying the majority of the nation’s wealth, leading the nation’s institutions, and having a grand ol’ time. Blessed to be born at a time with maximum opportunities and endless second chances, they could relax, hit the usual milestones of life, and even whine about being a little bored with it. Moreover, they always had ample options for community and support.
Meanwhile, younger generations (Gen X, Millennials, and now Gen Z) have to contend with fewer opportunities, less forgiveness, and disappearing communities. Today’s non-boomers find themselves earning less, owning less, and surrounded by idiots and slobs who make everything harder. Needless to say, life has not been as fun and easy for these generations as it was for the boomers.
