(CN) — Parties in the Archdiocese of New Orleans’ ongoing bankruptcy case returned to court Wednesday, appearing before a panel of federal judges in a challenge to lower court rulings that retained jurisdiction and ultimately dismissed the case by summary judgment. The case does not directly involve the archdiocese’s bankruptcy proceedings, which are related to sex abuse settlements.
Rather, it involves an attorney for abuse victims who claims an opposing lawyer, his firm and a mailing company wrongly sent out a court order criticizing Richard Trahant to thousands of people, including non-involved friends and family, causing Trahant and his wife embarrassment and harm.
