ER Editor: ‘Family voting’ has suddenly become a thing, a phenomenon that is not yet being declared a migrant family problem as such. The constituency of Gorton and Denton, in the once-industrial Greater Manchester area and only existing as a constituency since 2024, had a byelection yesterday after the incumbent Labour candidate pulled out claiming ill health. Although the area is a somewhat mixed bag, parts of it are considered very deprived economically (Wikipedia information), and it is clear that with a white population standing at 57% per a census 5 years ago, there are a lot of migrants in the area. In his coverage below the video, Peter Halligan gives us a breakdown of the ethnicities there, which puts the white population at just 51%.
Oddly, the vote went to the Greens(!) by a comfortable margin. Incumbent Labour came in third, with high-profile figure Andy Burnham having been pushed aside as a candidate by Labour main office; Reform UK second. Now, there are claims being widely made of ‘family voting’, that family members entered the polling booths to influence their relatives how to vote. Which is illegal. We’ll let this GB News video do the work here.
One of the commentators in the video refers to this phenomenon as women in families being told how to vote, noting the irony of the Greens vaunting their feminist credentials while relying on oppressed women to get into power. Not stupid. Further, footage shows how the Green party candidate, Hannah Spencer, has worked on the local Muslim/Pakistani population to get elected using Gaza to make her appeal.
There is a smell to this … a new constituency created in a highly Pakistani area; a Labour candidate who steps down, with vote-getting Andy Burnham being denied the opportunity to run. Greens put their foot on the pedal and curiously succeed, obtaining an historic first. And now an existing cultural phenomenon among Muslims finds its key moment to be revealed. During Ramadan 2026. That’s quite a lot of moving parts in our estimation.
