Rep. Nicole Malliotakis, R-N.Y., on Friday announced her departure from the House Problem Solvers Caucus, a bipartisan bloc of moderates in the lower chamber, asserting that the Democrats in the group never supported Republicans.Malliotakis had served as vice chair of the caucus.
“Sadly, it has become apparent to me over the past five years that the bipartisanship of the Problem Solvers Caucus has clearly been a one-way street,” she said, according to Punchbowl News. “Time and again, Republicans in this caucus cross party lines to advance key pieces of legislation, whether it be with their votes or signatures on discharge petitions, yet the Democrats do not.”
Excluding Malliotakis, the Caucus has 44 members and is currently co-chaired by Rep. Tom Suozzi, D-N.Y., and Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick, R-Pa.
Malliotakis has held office sine early 2021 and represents Staten Island.
