President Donald Trump is throwing his support behind a bill that would end the twice-per-year clock changes. The Sunshine Protection Act would make Daylight Savings Time permanent all year. The bill is part of a larger Motor Vehicle Modernization Act, which the House Energy and Commerce Committee advanced in a 48-1 vote on Thursday.
“This is so important in that Hundreds of Millions of Dollars are spent every year by people, Cities, and States, being forced to change their Clocks. Many of these Clocks are located in Towers, and the cost of renting, or using, Heavy Equipment to do this twice a year is prohibitive!” Trump said in a post on Truth Social.
Rep. Vern Buchanan, R-Fla., who sponsored the bill, called it a “commonsense reform.”
He says his bill will bring us one step closer to ending the outdated and unpopular practice of changing our clocks twice a year.
“Floridians and Americans across the country are tired of the biannual time change, and the evidence is clear that permanent daylight saving time can improve public health, reduce traffic accidents, lower crime and encourage more outdoor activity.”
