President Donald Trump said Thursday that the United States will be deploying 5,000 troops to Poland as the U.S. reviews its military presence in Europe.It was not clear how long the troops would be stationed in Poland, which currently hosts 369 permanently assigned active-duty service members and about 10,000 personnel of rotational force, or when exactly the troops would be moved to the European country.
“Based on the successful election of the now President of Poland, Karol Nawrocki, who I was proud to endorse, and our relationship with him, I am pleased to announce that the United States will be sending an additional 5,000 Troops to Poland,” Trump posted to Truth Social.
Trump previously teased relocating 5,000 troops from Germany to Poland, touting his friendship with the Polish leader, and the Pentagon has also indicated that the U.S. would move 5,000 troops from Germany in the next six to 12 months.
It was not clear if these new troops would be moved from Germany, which is currently home to the largest U.S. military presence in Europe, with more than 35,000 troops currently stationed in the country.
