Two ships near the Strait of Hormuz were targeted on Thursday, with one captured and the other sunk. The incidents occurred as the ongoing ceasefire between the U.S. and Iran technically remains in place, though it has seen Iran, the U.S., and other Gulf States exchange fire.
The first ship was anchored near the United Arab Emirates when it was captured and taken toward Iran, the Associated Press reported. The other ship, which was near Oman, was sunk in the attack.
Authorities have not yet identified the culprits.
President Donald Trump has, in recent weeks, expressed frustrations with the state of the Iranian negotiations and their unwillingness to make meaningful concessions.
Trump is currently in China, where has has worked to secure the support of Beijing to reach an end to the Iran war and keep the Strait of Hormuz open for commerce.
