A cargo ship close to the Strait of Hormuz reported being attacked by several small boats, according to the British military’s United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) center on Sunday. The incident is one of at least two dozen reported attacks in and around the strait since the start of the Iran war.
The UKMTO said all crew members aboard the unidentified vessel, which was traveling north, were safe following the attack near Sirik, Iran, just east of the strait.
Iranian officials have said they maintain control over the waterway and that ships not linked to the United States or Israel may pass if they pay a toll.
No group has claimed responsibility for Sunday’s reported attack.
The Associated Press said it was the first reported incident in the area since April 22, when another cargo ship said it had come under fire.
