Local authorities have taken a 23-year-old man into custody in connection with a reported sexual assault that police said occurred at an apartment in Bensalem late last month, according to a recent press release as well as local news reports. The Bensalem Township Police Department said officers were notified of a possible sexual assault that took place on the evening of November 30 involving a woman who had agreed to meet with a man identified as Kevin Mendez-Ramon at his apartment after receiving a text message invitation to hang out and watch a movie.
Police said the woman allegedly told investigators that Mendez-Ramon physically forced himself on her while watching the movie and ignored her repeated attempts to push him away and yelling for him to stop. His roommates did not intervene, according to Bucks County CRIMEWATCH.
Following the assault, officers said Mendez-Ramon told the victim the encounter had sexually aroused him because it was not consensual. Police said the two communicated again via Instagram days later when he admitted to the assault and apologized.
Bensalem detectives obtained a warrant for Mendez-Ramon’s arrest after he later acknowledged the assault during questioning. Detectives and members of the Special Investigations Unit located and arrested him at his home on December 18, without incident.
He has been charged with multiple offenses including rape, sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, and indecent assault. A Bucks County judge arraigned Mendez-Ramon, setting bail at 10% of $50 million, and he is currently held at the Bucks County Correctional Facility pending further court proceedings.
Police noted that Mendez-Ramon is originally from Ecuador and he entered the United States illegally.
