    Monthly cultural outings slash depression risk 48% in decade-long study

    A decade-long study of more than 2,000 adults found that regular cultural engagement can slash depression risk by nearly half.
    Those who attended cultural events monthly experienced a 48 percent lower risk of developing depression.
    The protective effect remained strong even after researchers accounted for wealth, health, and social networks.
    Cultural activities combine social connection, cognitive stimulation, novelty, and emotional expansion to protect mental health.
    Researchers urge raising awareness that cultural engagement works like a social vitamin for long-term mood resilience.
