    Senate confirms new Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives director

    The Senate confirmed Robert Cekada Wednesday as the new director of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives in a bipartisan vote.Cekada, who served as the acting ATF director, was confirmed in a 59-39 split. Six Democrats and Independent Maine Sen. Angus King, who caucuses with Democrats, voted in favor of his confirmation.
    The ATF is a law enforcement agency under the Justice Department that is tasked with investigating the illegal use of firearms, explosives, and acts of arson.
    “Congratulations to Rob Cekada on his confirmation today as the next Director of [ATF],” Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said on X. “Rob is an outstanding leader who has served as the Deputy Director of ATF over the last year, and is an integral part of our team. I look forward to our continued work together to make America safe.”
