Rep. Daniel Webster, R-Fla., on Tuesday announced that he would not seek reelection to Congress in 2026.”After much prayerful consideration and discussion with my beloved wife Sandy, I have decided not to seek re-election to the United States House of Representatives,” he posted on X.”To have been part of the development and passage of some most significant legislation in our time is something I will forever treasure.”
Webster first won election in 2010 and has represented multiple districts in Florida since first entering the House, due to redistricting. His retirement makes him the latest in a string of lawmakers to not seek reelection this cycle.
Dozens of members of the House have opted against returning to the next Congress, as have several senators. Longtime Senate GOP leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., for example, is expected to leave public office at the end of his term.
