Supreme Court approves Texas’s congressional map redraw

The Supreme Court on Monday approved the slate of Texas’s new congressional maps, reversing a lower court decision that had blocked their implementation.The Texas redraw started the string of map redraws across the country that has seen many states attempt to flip the balance of the House for the midterms.
“Based on our preliminary evaluation of this case, Texas satisfies the traditional criteria for interim release,” the court wrote. “Texas is likely to succeed on the merits of its claim that the district Court committed at least two serious errors.”
The decision comes ahead of an expected ruling on a Louisiana redistricting case that could see the Supreme Court significantly upend portions of the Voting Rights Act and trigger additional redraws across the South.
