The California man arrested on Saturday night in connection to a shooting at the White House correspondents’ dinner was a tutor and amateur video game developer, according to social media posts reviewed by the Associated Press.Cole Tomas Allen, a resident of Torrance, California, received a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena in 2017.
Federal campaign finance records show that Allen, 31, donated $25 to a Democratic Party political action committee backing Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign.
According to his online résumé, Allen spent the past six years working at C2 Education, a company that provides college admissions counseling and test preparation services. In 2024, the company recognized him as its teacher of the month in a Facebook post. Representatives for the company did not respond to a request for comment from the AP.
Allen has also shared that he developed a video game for the Steam platform centered on molecular chemistry. In another post, he indicated he was working on a new top-down shooter game based in outer space.
