President Donald Trump’s second son, Eric Trump, is slated to accompany his father on a trip to China next month, alongside Eric Trump’s wife Lara Trump, and the pair will take the trip in a personal capacity, Reuters reported Tuesday. The trip will mark the first time a sitting American president has visited the country in eight years and comes after the president delayed the trip by over a month because of conflict in the Middle East.
The visit will take place May 14-15 and Eric Trump is not expected to engage in any business in China during the trip, which is intended to help maintain stable relations between the U.S. and China.
“Eric is deeply proud of his father and the accomplishments of this term, and is attending in a personal capacity as a supportive son,” Trump Organization spokeswoman Kimberly Benza told the outlet.
“He does not have business ventures in China nor plans on doing business in China,” she continued. “He will not be participating in private meetings, but will instead stand alongside the president to mark this historic occasion.”
Eric Trump currently sits as executive vice president of the Trump Organization, overseeing investments that include real estate and golf, while Lara Trump currently hosts the Fox News show “My View with Lara Trump.”
The president’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., who also helps oversee the Trump Organization, is not expected to go on the trip.
