Vance says future of Middle East peace talks are in Iran’s ‘court’

Vice President JD Vance said Monday night that the future of peace negotiations are in the hands of Iran after he left Pakistan over the weekend without a peace deal.Vance led marathon negotiations that lasted over 21-hours on Saturday, but ultimately walked away without an agreement that would end conflict in the Middle East.
The vice president claimed Iran has the U.S.’s “best and final offer” but chose not to accept it, and that further negotiations are now up to Tehran. In addition to Vance, U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner helped with negotiations.
“Whether we have further conversations, whether we ultimately get to a deal, I really think the ball is in the Iranian court because we put a lot on the table,” Vance told Fox News’ Bret Baier. “We actually made very clear what our red lines were.”
Vance said some of those red lines were taking Iran’s enriched uranium and preventing Iran from having it in the future because it would help the country get closer to having a nuclear weapon.
“Those are really the two things where frankly, the Iranians, I think, did make some progress,” he said. “They moved in our direction, which is why I think we would say that we had some good signs. But they didn’t move far enough, and so what we decided is, ‘You know what? Given that we don’t think this current team and this current timeline is going to be able to make a deal, let them go back to Tehran, we’re going to go back to Washington,’ and that’s where we are today.”
The conflict also increased Monday after President Donald Trump ordered a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz and threatened to sink Iran’s remaining “fast attack ships” if they attempted to break the blockade.
