Trump says ‘religion is growing again’ in the US as Christians enter Easter weekend

President Donald Trump said Friday that “religion is growing” in the United States as the nation closes out Holy Week and enters Easter weekend. The president made the comment during an Easter message on Truth Social ahead of the holiday, which takes place on Sunday and marks the resurrection of Jesus in the Christian faith.
During Holy Week, Trump hosted multiple White House events for national faith leaders, including prayer services in the Oval Office, an Easter lunch and worship gatherings with pastors such as Franklin Graham.
The president will also hold the annual Easter Egg Roll at the White House on Monday.
“This Holy Week, I’m proud to join with Christians across the country and around the world to celebrate the most glorious miracle in all of time, the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ,” Trump said in the message.
“In his life, Christ displayed true humility,” he continued. “In his death, he modeled true love. And in his resurrection from the tomb, he proved that even death itself will not silence those who place their trust in Almighty God.”
The president reminded global Christians that “evil and wickedness will not prevail,” despite an ongoing conflict in the Middle East, and celebrated the resurgence of Christianity and religion in the U.S.
“In the spirit of joy and renewal this Easter, we also celebrate the extraordinary resurrection of faith and religion in America,” Trump said. “In churches across the nation on Sunday, the pews will be fuller, younger, and more faithful than they have at any time in many, many years. Religion is growing again in our country for the first time in decades.”
The message also comes as the U.S. prepares for its 250th birthday in July. Trump highlighted Christianity’s influence on the founding of the country in a separate message Friday.
“From the Christian patriots who won and secured our liberty on the battlefield and every generation since, the love of Christ has unfailingly guided our Nation through calm waters and dark storms,” Trump said in a written statement.
“We pray that this celebration of the Resurrection strengthens our faith, enriches our lives, and reawakens our souls,” he continued. “We offer prayers of adoration and thanksgiving for the countless blessings God has bestowed upon our Nation.  We acknowledge that, through Christ’s redeeming sacrifice, in the words of Holy Scripture, ‘Death is swallowed up in victory.’
“Above all, we echo with tremendous joy those sacred words that have given life, hope, and purpose to Christians for thousands of years:  He is risen,” he concluded. “Happy Easter.”
