Rep. Rich McCormick, R-Ga., this week expressed over Secretary of War Pete Hegseth’s ouster of Army chief of staff Randy George amid the ongoing Iran war.Hegseth asked George to immediately retire on Thursday evening. The shakeup marked his latest ouster of a high-level military figure and came as the U.S. has struggled to force Iran to the negotiating table.
“I’ve never heard him say anything contrary to what the president’s trying to achieve,” McCormick said in an appearance on Newsmax. “I thought he’s done a really good job getting the Army ready for war. So, I’d like to hear more because that’s concerning to me.”
“I would look into it immediately because those are people I know very well,” he added.
The exact reason for George’s ouster remains unclear. Gen. Christopher LaNeve, who previously served as an aide to Hegseth has taken over George’s responsibilities in the interim, Axios reported.
