The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) warned it could target American- and Israeli-affiliated universities in the Middle East in response to a reported attack on the Iran University of Science and Technology in Tehran, according to Iran’s Tasnim News Agency. In a statement carried by Tasnim, the IRGC said U.S. and Israeli universities in the region would be considered legitimate targets until two institutions are struck in retaliation for damage to Iranian universities.
The group also warned staff, students, and nearby civilians to stay at least one kilometer away from such sites, claiming the measure was intended to protect lives.
The IRGC issued an ultimatum to Washington, saying U.S. officials have until Monday to release a statement condemning the alleged attack on Iranian universities.
It further cautioned against any response, adding that if the United States wants to avoid escalation, it must prevent allied forces from targeting universities and research facilities, or face consequences.
