    Regulatory overreach is usually easy to spot when it comes from the Left. You know it when you see it: sweeping mandates dressed up as consumer protection, union wish lists repackaged as worker safety, and government picking winners and losers in the name of the “national interest.” Conservatives have spent decades pushing back against exactly that kind of thinking. Which makes the push for the provisions in the so-called Railway Safety Act so puzzling and so dangerous to the MAGA movement.

    Donald Trump’s second-term record on deregulation has been one of the most consequential conservative policy achievements in decades. Federal agencies have issued 646 deregulatory actions compared with just five new regulations, a record the Office of Management and Budget estimates will produce roughly $212 billion in savings. That is what conservative governance looks like. It limits bureaucratic micromanagement, allows industries to innovate, and trusts markets more than regulators.
