Former Border Patrol commander Greg Bovino on Tuesday slammed Trump Border Czar Tom Homan and Customs and Border Protection Commissioner Rodney Scott, stating the pair “do nothing” when Americans are killed. The comment comes as Bovino is expected to depart Border Patrol later this month after nearly 30 years in the agency. Bovino’s retirement comes after he was removed as Border Patrol commander at large in January, and was pulled out of Minneapolis after federal agents killed two anti-ICE activists, Renee Good and Alex Pretti.
Bovino accused Homan and Scott of being silent in the death of Loyola University student Sheridan Gorman, who was allegedly killed by an illegal migrant in Chicago last week.
“Those Border Patrol Agents, I’ll miss dearly. They are the very best and the most hardcore I know of. Put any mission in front of them, anywhere and it WILL be accomplished. When the Green Team is not around, bad things happen,” Bovino told NewsNation.
“The Gorman family is burying their daughter this week, and liberal commissioner Rodney Scott and capitulator Tommy Homan say and do nothing, which is how we got in this mess in the first place,” he added.
Bovino also stated in a recent interview with the New York Times, which was published Tuesday, that his biggest regret was not detaining and deporting more illegal migrants.
“I wish I’d caught even more illegal aliens,” he told the outlet. “I mean, we went as hard as we could, but there’s always a creative and innovative solution to catching even more.”
The CBP and Homan have not publicly commented on Bovino’s criticisms.
Bovino’s expected departure at the end of the week comes after he joined Border Patrol in El Centro, California, in 1996. He also served on foreign assignments in Egypt, Africa and Honduras.
