A man was convicted of a hate crime after attacking an Israeli tourist in New York City following Hamas’ Oct. 7, 2023, attack on Israel.Yehia Amin was convicted of a hate crime in the New York State Supreme Criminal Court, the Times of Israel reported Monday. Amin stalked and punched a 23-year-old Jewish Israeli near Times Square on Oct. 18, 2023, according to the Manhattan District Attorney’s Office.
Amin was convicted of assault as a hate crime in the third degree, and is expected to be sentenced to 90 days in prison, followed by five years of probation, at the end of May.
According to the DA’s indictment, the victim was walking with four friends who were all wearing kippahs when they passed by Amin, who recognized them as Jewish and began pursuing them.
Amin said to the group, “Hamas should kill more of you,” “May Allah kill all the Jews,” and “All Jews should die.” He then ran up behind the victim and punched him in the back of the head, before fleeing the scene.
The Israelis followed him, as did a police officer, who arrested Amin.
While under arrest, Amin said, “God kill all the Jewish people,” the DA’s Office said.
