House Speaker Mike Johnson said Tuesday that there won’t be a vote on extending Obamacare subsidies, which expire at the end of the month.During the weekly GOP press conference, Johnson said that many centrist members in swing districts were pushing for a subsidies vote, and leadership “looked for a way to try to allow for that pressure release valve,” the Washington Examiner reported.
“It just was not to be,” Johnson said. “We worked on it all the way through the weekend, in fact. And in the end, there was not — an agreement wasn’t made.”
He noted that the members came to the table in “good faith” to look for a path forward and that he appreciated their opinions.
Johnson expects the entire GOP conference to “join in unity” on voting for the Lower Health Care Premiums for All Americans Act on Wednesday.
