LOS ANGELES (CN) — The former head of a Syrian prison said on Monday he was being made to take the fall for the Assad regime by U.S. prosecutors, as charges he tortured prisoners headed to the jury.
“History cannot be rewritten in this court of law,” Nina Marino, the attorney for Samir Ousman Alsheikh, said in her closing argument. “He’s made a scapegoat for the regime while the true criminals are running free.”
