President Trump Participates in Border Defense Medal Presentation – 3:00pm ET Livestream

During the period 1991-1998, the California National Guard, along with that of Arizona, New Mexico and Texas all had USBP and US Customs Service support programs along the U.S. Mexico Border. The Soldier and Airmen involved served on Counter-Drug, Title 32 Federal Active Duty for extended period, often years. In California they performed engineering, road-building, fence and barrier construction along the actual border to enhance enforcement mobility. They supplemented Port-of-Entry inspections by the Customs Service, provided intelligence analysis at USBP Sector Headquarters, and served in clandestine and overt Observation Posts to surveil and monitor border trafficking routes. The service was dfirectly in support of the same agencies and locations as the new Border Award and their service needs to be retroactively included in the eligibility criteria!
