A suspected Iranian drone strike on Saturday caused disruption at Dubai’s main airport and another hit a skyscraper, resulting in one death, according to reports.Authorities said an aerial drone approached the area around Dubai International Airport early Saturday, triggering air defense responses and forcing the temporary suspension of flight operations as explosions were heard across parts of the city.
Passengers inside the airport were reportedly moved to sheltered areas while emergency crews assessed damage.
A fire broke out in a separate incident at one of Dubai’s tallest residential skyscrapers after debris from an intercepted Iranian drone struck the building during a series of attacks across the Gulf, authorities said Saturday.
The incident occurred at 23 Marina Tower, a 90-story luxury residential skyscraper in the Dubai Marina district.
Witnesses reported seeing smoke rising from the upper levels of the tower shortly after loud explosions were heard in the sky above the city.
A person was reportedly killed as a result of the attack, reports said.
