Fifty-three House Democrats on Thursday voted against a resolution to reaffirm Iran’s status as the largest state sponsor of terrorism.House Resolution 1099 stated that “the House of Representatives declares it is the policy of the United States that Iran continues to be the largest state sponsor of terrorism.” The resolution further listed a number of offending actions by the Iranian government to justify the determination.
The resolution, sponsored by Rep. Brian Mast, R-Fla., passed in an overwhelming 373-53 vote, with only Democrats opposing it.
The measure comes amid the ongoing war with Iran that President Donald Trump launched last week. Administration officials have declined to rule out the prospect of boots on the ground and the president’s endgame remains unclear.
Early on Friday, he declared he would accept nothing shy of “unconditional surrender” from the Iranian government.
