Iran on Thursday promised to further widen its conflict against the U.S. and Israel, launching a new series of strikes against Israeli targets and threatening the U.S. after a submarine sunk an Iranian warship. The attack on the Iranian vessel was the first by a U.S. submarine since World War II, according to media reports. The attack took place off the coast of Sri Lanka, which said its Navy had recovered 87 bodies and rescued 32 others from the Iranian ship.
Iran vowed to make the U.S. “bitterly regret” sinking the ship.
Meanwhile, Iran launched a new wave of missile attacks on Israel. Tens of thousands of Israelis were reported to have passed the night in bomb shelters, but there were no reports of injuries.
Iran has also reiterated its control of Strait of Hormuz, which under normal circumstances sees around a fifth of the world’s coil supply pass through it. Iran said it would attack any vessels that attempted to pass through the narrow strait, regardless of country of origin.
