The Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution announced Tuesday that it will be holding a hearing next week on ending automatic birthright citizenship for children of illegal migrants and tourists. No speakers have been announced for the hearing so far but the hearing will take place March 10, at 2:30 p.m.
The hearing comes as the Supreme Court is expected to hear the case surrounding President Donald Trump’s executive order directing federal agencies to interpret the 14th Amendment as excluding birthright citizenship to the children of illegal migrants and tourists.
The Supreme Court is expected to rule in the case early this year, but no clear timeline for the case has been set so far.
Trump imposed the order last year as a means to deter pregnant tourists from having their babies in the United States and illegal migrants to stop using the method as a way to remain in the country.
