First lady Melania Trump on Monday will still preside over a United Nations Security Council meeting on education and world peace, amid the U.S. war with Iran. The meeting in New York City is specifically about education’s role in “advancing tolerance and world peace,” a White House official said, CBS News reported.
Last week, the White House confirmed that Trump would preside over the panel, but that was prior to the U.S. and Israel launching strikes on Iran, which killed Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Four U.S. service members were killed in an Iranian strike on Kuwait, according to the Defense Department.
This is the first time that a first lady will chair a meeting of the council.
The meeting is scheduled to begin at 3 p.m. ET on Monday at the U.N. headquarters, and U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Waltz is also expected to attend.
