A reported strike on the U.S. garrison at the base in Erbil, Iraq, appears to have been successful, with footage and images of the area showing columns of smoke over the facility.The U.S. has maintained a presence in Iraqi Kurdistan for years and is in the process of withdrawal from the country. Iranian state media confirmed the targeting of the Erbil International Airport, which hosts the American garrison, according to Anadolu Agency.
There are no details as to casualties or the extent of the damage, though multiple videos and photos online purported to show the destruction of an ammunition depot.
United States Central Command has not commented on the strike as of press time.
