President Donald Trump on Sunday declared that if the Iranians followed through with a planned counterattack in the region, he would escalate American strikes on their country.”Iran just stated that they are going to hit very hard today, harder than they have ever hit before,” he posted on Truth Social. “THEY BETTER NOT DO THAT, HOWEVER, BECAUSE IF THEY DO, WE WILL HIT THEM WITH A FORCE THAT HAS NEVER BEEN SEEN BEFORE! Thank you for your attention to this matter!”
American and Israeli forces launched a preemptive strike on Iran in the early hours of Saturday, killing Ayatollah Ali Khomeini and much of the senior military leadership. The current chain of command is unclear, though Iran has launched a series of retaliatory strikes.
Trump, for his part, has urged the Iranian people to rise up and overthrow their government.
