The House Oversight Committee’s deposition of former first lady Hillary Clinton was paused on Thursday after a photo of the closed-door hearing was posted on X.“The hearing has been paused briefly while we figure out where the photo came from,” Clinton spokesperson Nick Merrill told reporters.
Media provocateur Benny Johnson posted the image of Clinton testifying, saying “The first image of Hillary Clinton testifying under oath about Jeffery Epstein to the Republican Oversight Committee. This is the first time Hillary has had to answer real questions about Epstein. Clinton does not look happy.”
Johnson indicated he received the photo from Rep. Lauren Boebert, R-Colo.
Clinton posted her opening statement on X before testifying.
“I had no idea about their criminal activities. I do not recall ever encountering Mr. Epstein. I never flew on his plane or visited his island home or offices.”
She also wrote: “[Y]ou have compelled me to testify, fully aware that I have no knowledge that would assist your investigation. in order to distract attention from President Trump’s actions and cover them up despite legitimate calls for answers,” she wrote in the statement.
“If this committee is serious about learning the truth about Epstein’s trafficking crimes, it would not rely on press gaggles to get answers from our current president on his involvement; it would ask him directly under oath about the tens of thousands of times he shows up in the Epstein files,” the statement also says in part.
