Former Treasury Secretary Larry Summers will leave Harvard at the end of the academic year amid ongoing fallout over his relationship with the late Jeffrey Epstein.Summers served as Treasury Secretary for former President Bill Clinton from 1999-2001. He also led the National Economic Council under former President Barack Obama.
“I have made the difficult decision to retire from my Harvard professorship,” Summers said, according to Politico. “I will always be grateful to the thousands of students and colleagues I have been privileged to teach and work with since coming to Harvard as a graduate student 50 years ago.”
Summers’s departure makes him the latest in a wave of high-profile politicians and CEOs to either be fired or resign from top-level jobs due to their links to the convicted sex trafficker.
Sultan Ahmed bin Sulayem was removed from his chairman and CEO positions at DP World earlier this month. The UK, meanwhile, recently arrested Peter Mandelson, its former ambassador to the U.S., in connection with an Epstein probe. The former Prince Andrew was also arrested.
In Norway, former Prime Minister Thorbjørn Jagland faces corruption charges over his links to Epstein.
