Special envoy Steve Witkoff this weekend said that Iran was a mere “week away” from enriching weapons-grade uranium, marking the latest statement of urgency from a senior Trump administration official as the president weighs another attack on the country.Witkoff made the remarks during a Saturday appearance on Fox News, telling host Lara Trump that Iran was “probably a week away from having industrial-grade bomb-making material.”
Claims of Iran being weeks to months from completing a nuclear warhead have persisted for decades. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made similar statements last year ahead of the American strikes on Iran, that led to the 12-day conflict between Iran and Israel.
Witkoff stated that Iran had reached 60% enrichment levels, which is well over the civilian use threshold. His comments come as the Pentagon warns of the risks of a conflict, including the depletion of air defenses and mass casualties.
