Gov. Greg Abbott, R-Texas, this week warned citizens of the state to remain vigilant to to watch for travel warnings as violence in Mexico over the killing of Nemesio ‘El Mencho’ Oseguera Cervantes, the leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel.”Texans’ safety is my top priority, whether they are here at home or traveling abroad,” Abbott said in a statement. “I urge all Texans in Mexico to follow the guidance of U.S. officials, stay alert, and ensure that they are in contact with the U.S. embassy or nearest U.S. Consulate.”
The Mexican military killed the drug kingpin during an attempted apprehension, The Hill reported. The Jaliscos are notorious for being among the most violent of the drug cartels in Mexico and have a reputation for brutality that far exceeds the standards of their rivals.
The Jaliscos primarily operate central Mexico and the death of the leader has led to rampant bloodshed.
