The U.S. men’s hockey team defeated Sweden 2-1 in overtime in the quarterfinals of the 2026 Winter Olympics on Wednesday in Milan, Italy, after earlier having made it through the preliminary round without a loss. Sweden tied the score at 1-1 with a minute and a half to go in regulation time after the U.S. had scored its first goal in the second period. The winning goal in overtime was by Quinn Hughes.
Since 1998, when the U.S. Olympic team began including players from the National Hockey League, the U.S. has won only one medal, a silver medal at the 2010 Olympics in Vancouver, Canada.
The U.S. will play in the semifinals on Friday against Slovakia.
