    NEW ORLEANS (CN) — Residents of Louisiana’s “Cancer Alley” may proceed with a lawsuit seeking to stop heavy industry from moving into their predominantly-Black neighborhoods, a federal judge ruled Monday.

    Following the 1958 construction of the first petrochemical plant in St. James Parish, at least 28 of 32 such plants in the parish are in the majority-Black 4th and 5th Districts. Residents in these areas face much higher cancer rates, as well as respiratory and infant ailments.
