U.S.-Iran talks in Oman seem to yield fruit: ‘Very Serious’

Iranian Foreign Minister Badr Albusaidi on Friday confirmed that nuclear talks in Iran with the U.S. had been “very serious” and that the parties agreed to further negotiations.”Very serious talks mediating between Iran and the US in Muscat today,” he said.”It was useful to clarify both Iranian and American thinking and identify areas for possible progress. We aim to reconvene in due course, with the results to be considered carefully in Tehran and Washington.”
The confirmation of further talks comes as the Trump administration weighs further strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities. Washington previously launched strikes on Iranian facilities last year, leading to a short-lived exchange of strikes between Iran and Israel.
Talks were originally planned to take place in Turkey and to address the nuclear program, the Iranian missile program, and its support for armed groups in the region, the Wall Street Journal reported. Tehran, however, did not send a delegation to Turkey and instead demanded talks in Oman that would only address the nuclear issue. The U.S. agreed.
