The Los Angeles Fire Department said Thursday that three people died and at least six others were injured after an elderly woman accidentally drove her car into a grocery store in the Westwood neighborhood of the city. The victims and driver have not yet been identified, but the LAFD said the crash is not being considered an “intentional” collision.
Four of the six living victims have been taken to local hospitals, where two are in “serious condition,” and the other two sustained minor injuries. The final two injured victims signed out against medical advice on scene.
Two of the people killed, who were declared dead at the scene, were outside the 99 Ranch Market when they were hit by the car, a fire department spokesperson told NBC News.
“We are heartbroken by this situation,” a spokesperson for the market told the outlet. “Our deepest condolences go out to the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives, and we are holding everyone affected, customers, team members, and the broader community in our thoughts during this tough time.”
