PHOENIX (CN) — Testifying in the first of thousands of pending sexual assault lawsuits against Uber to reach trial, plaintiff Jaylynn Dean said Monday in federal court that Uber failed to prevent her from being raped by her driver in the back of his car.
Dean sued Uber in November 2023, claiming the tech giant was negligent in her assault and could have prevented it with reasonable safety standards like mandatory in-car cameras and more comprehensive background checks. She adds that Uber was aware of the heightened risk of sexual assault, specifically for drunk women traveling alone at night, but did nothing to warn customers about potential dangers.
