A cardiologist shared some important tips for homeowners as they shovel during the powerful winter storm blanketing a significant portion of the United States.Dr. William Lawson, Director of Preventive Cardiology at the Stony Brook Heart Institute, discussed his tips with News 12 in Long Island, New York.
1 – Use a light shovel.
2 – Push the snow more often rather than lift it up with the shovel you’re using.
“You want a light shovel, not a heavy shovel, because you’re going to have to lift it. Do more pushing,” Lawson said.
3 – “Take lots of breaks, stay hydrated,” he suggested.
4 – Use a snowblower if possible
5 – “Listen to your body. If you have any palpations, dizzy spells, chest discomfort, stop,” Lawson said.
